If fire extinguishers are available for employee use, it is the employer’s responsibility to educate employees on the principles and practices of using a fire extinguisher and the hazards associated with fighting small or developing fires. This education must be provided annually and also when a new employee is first hired. START’s fire extinguisher training course will instruct students on the appropriate use of these devices per the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.157.
The course will cover:
Hands-on training, as required of fire brigade members, as well as fire watches and any other worker who has been assigned any job that requires the use of a portable fire extinguisher
How to use an extinguisher to suppress a simulated fire using the PASS method (pull, aim, squeeze, sweep)
